1 – bottle of red wine, the dryer the better

1 – cup of rum (I recommend Bacardi Silver, but it’s a personal preference)

1 – cup of orange juice

1 – cup of sugar (you may substitute with Splenda, but cut to 1/2 cup instead)

1 – 16 oz. can of fruit cocktail in syrup

The juice of one lemon

Mix: all the ingredients together.  I use a large pitcher, but you may use a punch bowl.  Some people add cut apples and citrus instead of the fruit cocktail, but I like the way the syrup thickens the sangria.  Besides, I’m lazy.  Opening a can of fruit cocktail is easier than cutting fruit.  I also enjoy the sweeter taste, as I’m not a fan of dry wine.

To make white sangria, substitute the red wine for white or blush… although then it wouldn’t be called sangria since it wouldn’t be red like blood.  😀
